SPL
Holy Trinity Primary School offers six Specialist Provision for Learning (SPL) classes, each staffed with a specialist SEN teacher and an experienced SEN assistant.
Children attending our SPL classes must have a Statement of Special Educational Needs, with the primary need identified as Cognition and Learning/MLD. The Education Authority is responsible for placing children within our SPL classes.
Our specialist classes are designed to meet the educational, social, emotional, behavioural, and well-being needs of the children. The curriculum is broad, balanced, differentiated, and adapted to suit their learning styles and abilities. Each class has a small pupil-to-teacher ratio, with a maximum of twelve children.
Our SEN staff have developed valuable partnerships with external agencies and professionals who support the school, SEN children, and parents. We work closely with EA support services.
Inclusion and integration with mainstream classes are central to our SEN ethos. We believe it's important for our SEN children to feel included and part of the whole school community. We offer robust integration opportunities for SEN children who are able to integrate. They join mainstream classes for break time, lunchtime, coaching sessions, sacraments, school assemblies and concerts, swimming, sports days, outside trips, and more.
Children attending the SPL classes receive an excellent education and are nurtured, cared for, and loved. They are given life skills and encouraged to become independent and resilient individuals who achieve their potential.
If you have a child with a Statement of Special Educational Needs and would like to discuss our specialist classes, please contact Mrs. Boyd to arrange an appointment.
