STATEMENT FROM INTO

Following the sad passing of Martin McGuiness, former Education Minister, INTO has, as a mark of respect and in recognition of his contribution to Education, decided to defer the half day strike and accompanying protest at Parliament Buildings planned for Thursday 23rd March 2017.

INTO is mindful of the inconvenience caused by the late notice of this deferral and is grateful for your understanding in this matter.

Half day closure on Thursday 23rd March

Dear Parent,

As I’m sure you’ll be aware, the INTO (teacher union) is planning to take industrial action from 12.30pm on Thursday 23 March 2017.  This is a dispute between teacher unions and the employers; it is not a dispute with the school.

The action, (a half day strike), will result in class or whole school closures across Northern Ireland.

The decision to close the school and / or send pupils home is never taken lightly, but in this instance, where staff have elected to take lawful industrial action, I will have no choice but to take appropriate steps to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils.

We know that class / school closures inconvenience parents and carers and so I am writing to give you advance notice of the likely impact of the action on this school.

The following arrangements will be in place:

  • The school will close at 12.15 for all pupils on Thursday 23 March and will be open for the morning session only. A snack will be provided for those children who are in receipt of free school meals at 11.45 before they go home.If your child is in the Learning Support Class they will be collected by transport as normal in the morning but you will have to make arrangements to collect your child from school at 12.15 as the EA will not be providing transport at 12.15.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.
