Do you want to be a Digital Leader?

Last year for the first time ever Holy Trinity appointed 12 Digital Leaders to help the school with their strong ICT Skills. They had a wonderful year learning new skills, passing on their knowledge, attending courses and helping around the school. They were  brilliant! We would like to say a huge thank you to:

Cora Mc Cann, Liam Walsh , Jay Mc Mahon, Dara Boylan, Riley Collins, Natasha Teer, Jessica Davis, Evie Mc Court, Leah Bunting, Rhianna Mc Kenna, Joshua Lavery and Daniel Armstrong.

This year we need new Digital Leaders to help us. If you are in P5, P6 or P7 and would like to apply for the position, you can download a form by clicking here or asking your teacher to get one for you from Mrs Rooney.

Good luck!

What is a Digital Leader?

The Digital Leader programme has been designed to allow some of our children with a particular interest in ICT to offer help and advice to children and staff around school with their computing learning.

You will be able to spot them as they wear Digital Leader Badges!

Throughout the year, these Digital Leaders will get special iPad and ICT training from Mrs Rooney and Mrs Connolly, iTeach and also the Apple Store in Victoria Square. They will also be asked to test some apps before the pupils use them and also recommend  apps and programmes that our school may find useful.

Mrs Rooney meets with the team  once a fortnight, so keep an eye on our blog to see what  they’ve been up to.

Good Luck Primary 7s!

schools outToday was our Primary 7s last day and we would like to wish them all the very best in their new school. They have been a great group of children and put on an absolutely fabulous show this year! We have all enjoyed watching them grow up during their time in Holy Trinity and their new schools will be so lucky to have them in September. They had a lovely assembly this morning followed by Mass in Holy Trinity Church this afternoon. Good luck P7s and keep an eye out here for a short iMovie from your concert!

Awards Presentation.

What a morning in Holy Trinity! Today  we had  a special assembly to present the 3rd Millennium Learning Award, the Digital Schools Award Northern Ireland and the Eco Green Flag Award. To present the awards we  welcomed Paddy Barnes, Double Olympic medallist who won his professional title by beating Romanian Silviu Olteanu in Belfast on Saturday night. Paddy brought his European Championship belt with him  much to the children’s delight. We also welcomed Paul Maskey MP and Malachy Crudden from CCMS, along with some members of our Board of Governors. The Digital Leaders and the Eco Council spoke brilliantly about the work the school  has been doing to achieve these prestigious awards and we were  delighted to see so many parents who were able to come and help us celebrate. Our Annie team were also on hand to treat us to some fantastic  musical dance routines and songs. Well done everyone!

Power to the pupils!

On 6th June 2017 Holy Trinity P.S. was invited to participate in ‘Power to the Pupils!’-  a day of active pupil-led enquiry and action on a global issue. The event brought together seven schools to showcase the global learning going on in each. Ethan McCusker, Rhianna Smylie and Aoife McCann showcased the global learning in Holy Trinity through a power point presentation. All three spoke clearly and confidently about a different global issue. They then participated in an interactive workshop on ‘Forced Migration.’ The facilitators commented on the excellent use of vocabulary by the pupils, a testimony to the extent and depth of which primary pupils can engage with complex issues and relate to the core concepts of Global Learning.

P7 Concert

This year the Primary Seven pupils took to the stage to perform the musical Annie. Parents had the privilege to view a surplus of young talent. This truly amazing show had everything in it including: acting, singing, dancing, drama and comedy- it was all there. The pupils should be commended for all their hard work over the last few months as they worked tirelessly to learn new dance routines, songs and command the stage. They really knew how to put on a show and are a  really talented bunch of children!  This has been the result of hard work from the children,  staff and in particular from Miss Donnelly.

Thank you Miss Donnelly for all the stage and production management.

Congratulations everyone!

Digital Schools Award Northern Ireland

Holy Trinity are delighted to be awarded the Digital Schools Award Northern Ireland.

digital schools award

Digital Schools Awards Northern Ireland is a new national awards programme which aims to promote, recognise and encourage a whole school approach to the use of digital technology in primary schools. This prestigious  award is supported by the  Department of Education Northern Ireland and industry partners HP, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Microsoft and Intel. On Monday12th June we had an assessor visit the school to see the work going on using ICT. The visit went extremely well and the children involved were excellent. Our Digital Leaders also displayed superb ICT skills.

Mrs Boyd, Mrs Rooney and Mrs Connolly met with Mrs Timoney the assessor and then took her to visit many of our classes. The children were creating iBooks, programming beebots, using green screen, coding apps, creating videos and participating in a Virtual Learning Environment. They were a credit to the school.

Gary Tierney, Managing Director of HP Northern Ireland said: “At HP we believe that technology has the power to make education a more unique experience for students in a way that is more flexible, collaborative and dynamic. We’re exceptionally happy to support the Digital Schools programme as it represents a best-in-class approach to the application of technology in the classroom.” Martin Murphy, Managing Director of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Northern Ireland added: “Digital technology is a way of life for everybody but when you look at the education system, modernising the curriculum to reflect that is a pretty big job. The Digital School Award is a flagship programme that helps do just that.”

A big thank you to Mrs Rooney and Mrs Connolly for submitting the Award.
