BookTrust Northern Ireland, in Partnership with the Belfast Book Festival, are providing us with an exciting visit from local author and illustrator, Paul Howard. The visit will be on Tuesday 4th June, and will involve 3 sessions with pupils from P2 – P4.

Paul Howard is a talented illustrator who has illustrated many award-winning books from authors such as, Allan Ahlberg, Jeanne Willis and Michael Rosen. Paul is probably best-known as the illustrator of Jill Tomlinson’s animal stories which include the classic, The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark.

This will be a lovely experience for our children and we are looking forward to it.

A big thank you to Sarah and Conor from Allstate for their cyber safety workshop with our Primary 5s, LSC classes and our Digital Leaders. They delivered a great message on Stop, Think, Tell.

The children learnt how to stay safe online, thinking about:

• Friend or Pretend
• Screen out the mean
• Beware what you share

Through the presentation and games the children increased their awareness of online safety and received a brilliant goodie bag at the end! A great session!

First Holy Communion took place on Saturday 11^th May in Holy Trinity Church.  It was a fantastic day and luckily the sun shone for the occasion.  The children’s behaviour was exemplary.  They sang out beautifully and took part in the Sacrament reverently. Thank you to Father Mulhall for the beautiful ceremony and for Miss Donnelly and Mrs Mc Kinney’s musical organisation.  A special word of thanks goes to the Primary 5 children who provided some wonderful singing as part of the choir.  It was a very successful day and the children were so well prepared by their P4 teachers; Mrs Carroll, Miss Scott, Mr Sweeney and Mr Mc Mahon.  Well done Primary Four!

School will be closed on Monday 6th May for the Bank Holiday.

School will close for the Easter holidays on Thursday 18th April at 11am. We will be open again on Monday 29th April.

On Wednesday 27^th March six primary 7 pupils were invited to take part in the STEM challenge run by SENTINUS. The Primary stem challenge is a hugely enjoyable problem solving challenge for teams of three pupils. The two Holy Trinity teams entered were up against some stiff competition from different primary schools across Belfast. Using basic technology materials, the pupils were required to design and build a solution in a set time. This year the children had to design a car that would carry a load down a ramp and travel across the assembly floor. Both teams did extremely well and represented themselves and the school with great distinction.

• The Professor Fluffy Programme introduces P7 pupils to Queen’s University. Representatives from QUB visit schools to tell the pupils all about university life in a fun, engaging and interactive way. Professor Fluffy aims to make children aware of the exciting opportunities available through higher education and through early introduction, we hope to encourage children to set their goals high for the future. The school has already received a visit from Professor Fluffy, along with one of the members of the Widening Participation Team. The pupils received an interactive and engaging talk about Higher Education and had the opportunity to ask lots of questions about University life.  Following this, On the 29^th April, the pupils will get an opportunity to visit Queen’s University for a campus tour and carousel of STEM skills building activities. The visit to University is rounded off by the opportunity for the pupils to try on graduation gowns and take home their very own mini Professor Fluffy.

This consultation seeks your views on their new e-Safety Strategy which sets out how all children and young people in Northern Ireland can, as far as possible, be kept safe and secure online. They aim to gather the views and suggestions about this strategy from children and young people, their parents and carers, all organisational stakeholders with an interest in safeguarding and the protection of children and young people so that they can make best use of the educational, social and economic benefits of the online world, while keeping them safe from potential harm online.

Consultation Description

They wish to develop a comprehensive cross-government action plan that will improve e-safety by:

• Reflecting existing evidence of good practice in e-safety approaches
• Engaging with existing e-safety mechanisms in the UK, seeking to add value and not duplicate
• Educating and supporting children and young people, and those responsible for their care and safety, to develop skills and knowledge to stay safe online
• Facilitating the responsible use of digital and internet technology
• Providing information on how to handle online abuse if it occurs and facilitating access to age-appropriate support services including recovery services.
